New restrictions to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in Ontario will kick in tomorrow (Wednesday, January 5th, 2022).
The province is temporarily moving back to a modified stage two of the reopening roadmap which will be in place until January 27th subject to trends in public health and the health system.
The Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) is reporting another person has died from complications due to COVID-19 today (January 4th, 2022).
Another 117 cases of COVID-19 are also being reported across Renfrew County and District.
The RCDHU confirmed a record breaking 281 new cases over the weekend with now three deaths reported in the last week.
There are currently 655 active cases in the region and information last week showed nine local residents in the hospital including one in the intensive care unit battling COVID-19.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says with the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, roughly 1 in 100 cases will end up in the hospital.
Ontario is reporting 11,352 new cases of COVID-19 today with ten additional deaths.
Across Ontario, 1,290 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, including 226 in the intensive care unit.
Quebec is reporting 14,494 new cases today and an additional 21 deaths linked to the virus.
The military has been called in to assist with the vaccination effort in Quebec.
With the rapid increase in transmission of Omicron, approx. 1 in 100 cases will end up in the hospital.
