Who will sit in the fourth seat at the North Algona Wilberforce council table has been decided. A judicial recount done this week shows Melvin Berndt is the rightfully elected representative. The judge also rules there was no grounds for another recount to take place. Following the October 22nd municipal election, Kevin Clarke was declared the winner over Berndt, who was the incumbent. Berndt had requested a recount saying the ballots with check marks instead of X’s were not counted. Berndt won his appeal as the recount showed he pulled in 14 more votes compared to his competitor. Clarke, not happy with the outcome requested a judicial recount that took place Thursday morning. Berndt will be sworn in to NAW council today (Friday).
