The official plan for Renfrew County is moving forward in the right direction. Talks between county representatives and the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing have taken place and the county has requested a 90 day extension to get the plan in place. Petawawa Mayor Bob Sweet and the County’s manager of planning services, Charles Cheesman, attending meetings with the assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and stressed the fact that Renfrew County is not like downtown Toronto or Ottawa. Cheesman says the changes proposed would have required a full blown study for almost all small developments.
Cheesman says now that county council has requested the extension the ball is in the hands of the province. Sweet added that they were only supposed to have a 45 minute talk, but ended up discussing the official plan for Renfrew County for well over 2 hours.
