A Horton resident is without a home following an overnight housefire just outside of Renfrew.
Horton Fire Chief Allan Cole says crews arrived at the corner of Whitton Road and Gillan Road at around 11:30 pm on Monday to find the home fully engulfed by the fire, with the semi-detached garage also beginning to burn vigorously.
After ensuring the occupant was looked after, firefighters worked quickly to save what they could from the blaze.
Efforts to battle the fire continued from outside the home until around 5:30 am on Tuesday with the assistance of the surrounding townships’ fire departments, but Cole notes that there was no indication that they could safely enter as the structure burned.
While the outcome was not what Cole had hoped for, he says the occupant of the home is now being looked after by friends as they look to determine the cause of the fire despite the extensive damage done to it.
