There are few candidates running for town council in Renfrew who have as much experience as Sandi Heins.
A former councillor, deputy reeve, and mayor over a combined 12 years, Heins is urging town hall to go back to basics by doing the research, making decisions based on that evidence, and providing their staff with clear direction to lower spending and overhead without sacrificing essential services.
Heins is calling on the town to make the most of its facilities, like the library, recreation, and office spaces, to reduce redundancy, and partner with community organizations to keep those facilities up to date.
She also says every purchase or project should have a clear need, and the town should use the available asset management plan to avoid jumping into those purchases before considering the alternatives or securing all the funds required.
Promoting Renfrew will also be top of mind for Heins if elected; she’s happy that there is momentum towards a new hotel in town to make the most of the events being hosted within the community, but more could still be done to get the message out about what’s available for visitors to enjoy.
Sandi Heins is one of ten candidates running for six at-large council seats in Renfrew, alongside Kyle Cybulski, Hayley Heaslip, Bruce Rozycki, John McDonald, Kate Windle, Clint McWhirter, Guy Longtin, Andrew Dick, and Scott Miller.
