Renfrew mayoral candidate Jason Legris believes that it’s time for reasonable leadership, accountability, and change in Renfrew.
After spending the past four years on the town council, Legris says he is kept up at night by comments from residents who are struggling to make ends meet due to the increase in the town’s tax levy.
He wants Renfrew to restore its focus on financial responsibility and has committed to working with council and staff to review spending and create a long-term financial plan that looks past a single year to ensure residents are getting value for their money.
Legris is also pledging to keep Strong Mayor Powers in check if elected, promising to not use them to bypass the council or shut councilors out of important decision-making.
With work already being done to prepare the town for incoming development and growth that comes with it, Legris says he’s ready to work with local businesses, community organizations, and other levels of government to be an advocate for Renfrew.
He faces five other candidates in the October 26 municipal election: Josh Marquardt, Peter Emon, Callum Scott, Mike Coulas, and Incumbent Tom Sidney.

We also asked all responding Renfrew mayoral candidates the same three questions, with their answers in full below:
Question 1: Renfrew is expected to benefit greatly with the upcoming expansion of Highway 417 and the resulting potential for increased commercial, industrial, and residential opportunities. As mayor, how would you direct town staff to prepare for the economic and population growth?
Question 2: The town is feeling the pinch financially in multiple ways, including a lengthy debenture to cover cost overruns with the Ma-te-Way Expansion project and volatile market conditions. How would you prioritize the town’s spending to navigate the situation?
Question 3: Beyond economic growth, what do you believe Renfrew needs to do to improve the quality of life for the people who already live here, and what would be your priorities as mayor?
