A volunteer from Valley Animal Rescue says it’s disheartening that someone would feel the need to steal from the charity once again.
Laurie Nadon runs VAR’s Empties program, which takes in donations of beer, wine and liquor bottles and cans to fund animal rescues and the steep vet bills that they incur caring for homeless and neglected and injured animals.
She says their empties donation box at the waste management site on Sand Road was hit by thieves for the second time.
Nadon says the theft has at least temporarily ended their Eganville operation.
Nadon says they’d be thrilled to open another location in Eganville, if there is a business that can offer them space, ideally in the downtown.
In the meantime, there are still donation drop off boxes in Renfrew, Calabogie, and White Lake.
