Efforts to bring new life to Renfrew’s Knights of Columbus Park will soon involve the surrounding community.
Director of Community and Recreation Services Cara Lemkay gave an update on the continuing collaboration between town staff and the Renfrew Rotary Club to revitalize the park, which lost much of its aging amenities to safety concerns in July 2024.
She says any concrete plans to upgrade the Sixth Street park will hinge on the combination of an upcoming survey and public consultation barbeque on September 20.
Lemkay did share a few of the ideas that have come forward during their research; which has included site visits and conversations with neighbouring municipalities to hear success stories and lessons learned.
She adds that any forward movement on revitalizing the park will likely not happen until after the fall election, gathering the information now will be crucial to determine the funding needs for the project, including potential grants and any fundraising by Rotary members.
A memorandum of understanding laying out the responsibilities of town staff and the Rotary Club has been drafted and will be revisited during the next term of council.
