There is a major power outage in the Upper Ottawa Valley this afternoon, as a result of an accident on Highway 17.
Hydro One says 5,474 homes and businesses are without power in an area stretching from the outer limits of Pembroke all the way through Head, Clara and Maria township. The utility says it expects to have the lights back on by 3 o’clock.
This comes after a transport truck crashed on Highway 17 earlier today, taking down hydro lines in the process.
The highway is closed between Wylie Road in Deep River and Kings Road in Chalk River.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
You’re asked to consider using an alternate route, as the closure expected to last a few hours.
