Update at 4:45 p.m.: Environment Canada has downgraded the Yellow Warning – Severe Thunderstorm to a Yellow Watch.
Update at 4:26 p.m.: Environment Canada has upgraded it’s Yellow Watch to a Yellow Warning – Severe Thunderstorm notice for Renfrew and the surrounding area.
A watch is when conditions are likely to create a severe thunderstorm, whereas a warning is when a thunderstorm is an imminent threat for the area.
The weather service suggests to take cover immediately if a severe thunderstorm approaches and head indoors, if possible.

Environment Canada has issued a Yellow Watch – Severe Thunderstorm notice for Arnprior, Renfrew and Calabogie.
The weather service says that the system approaching the region could develop severe thunderstorms that could produce strong winds, large hail and heavy rain.
Specific hazards include:
- Wind gusts up to 90km/h
- Quarter to ping pong ball sized hail
- Heavy rainfall up to 50mm in some areas
- Risk of tornado
The notice is in place starting early this afternoon into later this evening.
