Remediation of the dam in Balaclava is set to get underway on or after August 15th as part of the province’s investment of over $100 million to rehabilitate and upgrade 20 dams across the province.
This current wave of upgrades focuses $11.5 million on four dams in Ontario; the Balaclava Dam, as well as the Ahmic Lake Dam, Blind River Dam and Graham Lake Dam.
Minister of Natural Resources, Mike Harris says the investment is to upgrade this essential infrastructure so that the dams continue to meet the province’s high standards and operate safely and effectively for years to come.
The Township of Bonnechere Valley shared on their social media that the work is expected to take approximately 3 months to complete, as well as a temporary closure of Scotch Bush Road across the dam. Efforts will be made to minimize the duration of the closure, but the boat launch is expected to remain open.
