The summer heat continues outside, but communities are already beginning to think cooler thoughts at their local arenas.
Staff at Renfrew’s myFM Centre are preparing their main ice pad ahead of the season starting for minor hockey, figure skating, public free skates, and other fun at the rink, with rentals starting following the Civic long weekend on Tuesday, August 4.
Recreation Operations Supervisor Shawn Eckford says the process takes a few days of precise spraying to get the perfect layering needed to stand up a fall and winter of heavy wear and tear.
He adds that the extensive experience of the myFM Centre crew has earned them a glowing reputation for creating and maintaining consistently high-quality ice surfaces throughout the year.
Renfrew’s ice pads are usually busy the moment rentals open in August and continuing through September. It’s an exciting time for Eckford, who says the arena is always more fun when it’s packed with people and events.
People interested in securing ice time at the myFM Centre are encouraged to reach out to the Renfrew Recreation Department early and often. Ice times can also be booked online starting next week.
