Friday, July 17 marks 100 years to the day that the Royal Canadian Legion was officially incorporated by a special Act of Parliament and legions all across the country have celebrations planned.
At the Arnprior branch, a ceremony will begin at 11am with an entrance by a colour party and bag pipes, followed by speeches.
Membership Chair Stacy Mullins-Campbell says this will be a formal ceremony but it’s also a celebration.
There will be cake following the ceremony and everyone, not just legion members, are welcome to attend.
Renfrew Legion Branch 148 will hold a ceremony starting at 2:00 pm that afternoon, hosting a member meet up with light refreshments, games, and memorabilia on display before live entertainment with Marshall Stax from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
Meanwhile, the Almonte Legion will mark both the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion and the 20th Anniversary of the Veterans Walkway. From 4 to 7pm Friday, people are invited to take a walk along the walkway, then stop by the Legion on Bridge Street for an open house including food, refreshments and entertainment.
