Work at 1 Innovation Drive is expected to come under budget, opening up the opportunity for even more to be done.
Town council used their June 23 session to award the contract to replace part of the roof at the Innovation Centre building to Garland DBS Canada and J.G. Fitzgerald & Sons Ltd.
The estimated $326,685 project would include the replacement of some insulation that municipal property manager Jacob Collins says could affect how long the new roof actually lasts.
Council worked with Garland DBS Canada on a previous section of the building’s roof last year, and while they are not as familiar with J.G. Fitzgerald & Sons, Councillor Kyle Cybulski says they have background for the job.
Collins added that Garland also recommended replacing six rooftop HVAC units as the new roof is being installed, completing work that will be done in the near future while ensuring the roof stays properly sealed.
Town staff have been directed to proceed with the tender on the additional work, which local vendors have quoted at approximately $100,000.
