UPDATE 7:36 pm: The Renfrew OPP confirm that the section of Highway 17 between Storyland Road and Bruce Street has been closed as first responders attend to the fire. Please avoid the area and plan alternate routes

Local firefighters and police were the on the scene of a grass fire that broke out along Highway 17 on Sunday evening.
A listener tip to the station suggests the blaze is situated which sparked on the eastbound side of the highway near Bruce Street and Storyland Road sometime before 6:00 pm on May 17th.
Renfrew residents near the highway were able to see a black plume of smoke from the fire, and motorists are being detoured away from the area.
