Earlier today (May 5) Ontario By Bike unveiled the winners of the Best Bike Business and Best Bicycle Friendly Business awards here in the Ontario Highlands and Wilderness Tours was one of the winners.
Ontario By Bike is a network of information tailored for cyclists in Ontario; they feature trails and tours as well as local businesses known for being accessible to cyclists and providing those cyclists a service.
Wilderness Tours’ Bike Park is home to more than 25 kilometres of of gravity-fed and cross-country mountain bike trails designed for a variety of skill levels.
Bike Park Director, Matt McGuire, attributes that accessibility to the park’s success.
Ontario By Bikes has been organizing this friendly competition for eight years now and this is the first time the Foresters Falls-based outdoors park has made a placement.
McGuire said there is a lot of blood, sweat and tears that go into maintaining bike trails and it couldn’t be done without the volunteers.
He said there was also a lot of time and effort put into finding out what works for riders in the Valley.
Across the 13 regions defined by Ontario By Bikes, more than 1,700 businesses throughout the province who try their hardest to receive this award.
The Ontario Highlands winner of Best Bicycle Friendly Business is Cartwright Springs Brewery Inc. from Pakenham.
The region of Ontario Highlands, according to Destination Ontario, includes Lennox and Addington, Frontenac County North, Lanark County, Hastings County, Haliburton County and the Ottawa Valley (Renfrew County).
