People in Renfrew and Calabogie can expect to see a lot of pink jerseys on this weekend’s grocery run.
The Upper Ottawa Valley Ringette Association will be stationed outside stores in both communities for their annual Skate Day this Saturday, April 18th, as Director Tyson Andress says the fundraiser comes on the heels of an incredibly successful season that saw record enrollment and some big wins on the ice for one of the best ways to get young girls into local sports.
Andress is hoping to at least match the $4,000 raised during last year’s Skate Day, which has been crucial in keeping registration costs affordable and covering needs like jerseys and equipment that let their novice, fundamentals-level players have a chance to explore all aspects of ringette.
The money has also allowed the association to introduce new training programs over the past season that helped their players get the most out of the experience.
Donations can be made this Saturday from 10:00 am to 3:15 pm outside of Renfrew’s Walmart, Metro, Canadian Tire, and Chris and Tanya’s No Frills, as well as at Charbonneau’s Grocery in Calabogie, going to locations that keep close to where a large section of their player base comes from.
Supporters of local ringette can also expect more details about the association’s July 4th golf tournament and a chance for youth to try the sport for themselves later this summer in the coming days.
