Municipal staff in Shawville is inviting the community to claim a stake in the future of their local arena.
Officials are reaching out to local groups, organizations, and regional partners to share in the funding and operation of their arena following a decision by council that the current model of taxpayers carrying the majority of the financial responsibility should not continue on its own.
The municipality is still committed to contributing towards funding and capital improvements while also covering the lease with the Pontiac Agricultural Society, but their proposal is to build a collaborative approach that will bring the community together and provide better flexibility in how the arena operates.
More information is expected as discussions between the municipality and potential partners continue.
