McNab/Braeside’s mayor is blazing her own trail to better understand the inner workings of her township.
Lori Hoddinott is being lauded by the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario for successfully completing her diploma in Municipal Administration, needing only three of the eight years allowed by AMCTO to pass their certification programs in municipal administration, accounting and finance, municipal law, and employment law and human resources with honours.
The diploma is usually reserved for those aspiring to become chief administrative officers or other senior municipal staff, but Hoddinott says having an intimate knowledge of the systems she oversees at Town Hall will make her a better leader for the community.
Hoddinott paid just under $8,000 out of her own pocket for the honour and admits that the countless hours of studying required may make it a non-starter for some mayors, but the potential is there for it to become a must-have experience.
Township staff presented Hoddinott with her new master’s-style diploma at the regular session of McNab/Braeside’s council on Tuesday, March 3rd.
