Renfrew’s hunt to win the Barkley Cup got off to an encouraging start on Sunday evening with a 2-1 win over the Athens Aeros.
Mannix Hart led the way for the Timberwolves, assisting on Ricky Wilson’s goal to open scoring in the dying seconds of the first period and providing the game winner late in the second to earn first star of the game. Timberwolves goaltender Dylan Elliot stopped 28 of 29 shots against him in a second star effort.
The win gives the Timberwolves a 1-0 lead in their best-of-5 EOJHL Richardson Division Wild Card series with the Aeros as play heads to Centre 76 in Athens for Game Two this Tuesday, February 24th. Game time is 7:30 pm.
