Yesterday (Feb. 10) at around 4:50 p.m., Upper Ottawa Valley OPP received a call for service in Pembroke about an individual attempting to break into vehicles.
When officers arrived to the area, the suspect had already fled in a stolen vehicle.
A hunt ensued down Hwy. 17, where Renfrew officers deployed a spike strip, with no effect.
Police say the stolen car carried on and was later involved in a single-vehicle collision.
Afterwards the alleged individual attempted to flee and unsuccessfully steal a second vehicle.
The suspect then exited the vehicle close to Renfrew, and was arrested promptly.
As a result of the investigation, Todd Megrath (46) of no fixed address was charged with:
– Robbery with violence
– Two counts fail to comply with probation order
– Two counts of theft over $5000 motor vehicle
– Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
– Dangerous operation
– Failure or refusal to comply with demand
– Obstruct peace officer
– Assault Peace officer
– Assault with a weapon
The accused was held for a bail hearing.
