Frigid conditions could not deter anglers from breaking the ice along Muskrat Lake over the weekend.
The Cobden Civitan Club welcomed contestants to the 16th Annual Cobden Ice Fishing Tournament on Saturday, February 7th, braving temperatures touching -20 degrees that felt much colder thanks to a consistent wind leaving a lingering chill across the Ottawa Valley.
Kyle Jackson took home the prize for longest trout with a 29.5″ catch of the day, collecting $500 for the top cash prize winner alongside Scott Visutski’s 28″ pike and Nathan Donohue’s 13″ perch. Thomas O’Connor, Logan Howell, and Mason O’Connor would round out the Junior Cash Derby, with catches ranging from 10″ to 11.75″.
Charitable efforts also benefited from the day, as the Civitan Club announced that Hospice Renfrew, the CHEO Foundation’s Ruth Cull Endowment Fund, The Grind Pembroke, and First Step Options Pregnancy Resource Centre were each awarded $5,000 as part of the festivities.
