This upcoming weekend (Feb. 6, 7 and 8) the Bonnechere Cup returns to the Valley for its 50th installment.
Race director, Scott Clark, said a specific committee was organized to make this year’s cup a special one.
As for the racing, there is more of that too.
Due to an increase in popularity Clark has had to go from organizing about 67 races to over 80, including some races on Friday which has never happened before.
It’s been a busy time for the Bonnechere Cup team but Clark is happy about the influx in interest for snowmobile racing.
The winterized motorsport was one widespread throughout Ontario, but after years of decline, the cup in Eganville remains as the only officiated iced-oval snowmobile race in the province.
He said racers come from all over the county, some are coming up from the United States too.
Clark has been involved in snowmobile racing nearly his entire life, his passion for the sport sparked during childhood when his own father took Clark to watch the Bonnechere Cup.
He hasn’t missed a single cup since.
Clark’s father was also involved with the Bonnechere Cup, so continuing the cup continues his legacy.
Friday’s hot laps start at 11:00 a.m. as long as weather permits, with heat races at 1:30 p.m.
An adult day pass costs $25, a weekend pass is $40 and youth 12 and under get in for free.
Clark said the sheer speed is an incredible thing to witness, this is a cannot-miss event.
More information can be found on the Bonnechere Cup website.
