For over a decade the Special Olympics have been hosting polar plunges across the province to fundraise for its programs.
Last year, teams from all over Ontario raised a record-breaking $1,176,390 and this year they are looking to raise at lease one million.
With the 2026 goal set, Renfrew will be getting a delivery of ice-cold water for its plunge in March.
Spokesperson Kyle Dupperon-Haynes, said the fundraising is critical to maintain the organizations’ expanding list of sports and programs.
Donors who can handle the cold will be plunging into a bin, rather than a lake or river.
If plungers raise more than $50 before the March 7 event they get to jump for free, but residents can also pay $40 at the door.
All funds raised are in support of Special Olympics programming.
Registration opens at 10 a.m., with the first leap-off at around 10:30 a.m. and it’s happening at the OPP station on 410 O’Brien Rd.
