As the Town of Renfrew continues to inform its residents of the incoming changes to recycling and garbage pickup they have released additional information through digital documents which will be mailed to Renfrew homes through Canada Post with the first January water bills.
However, the digital documents are available now and present critical information such as pickup changes.
Starting on Jan 1, Circular Materials Ontario (CMO), will be managing recycling and garbage pickup, not the town.
Garbage will be picked up by Topps Environmental Solutions (TES) and their schedule is detailed in the map:
Miller Waste will be picking up the recycling and CMO has made more materials recyclable including, but not limited to; paper laminate packaging, flexible plastics, black plastics and foam packaging.
Fibres and plastics collection remains on an alternating schedule and now the downtown core can only put cardboard out for curbside pickup bi-weekly.
Despite the responsibility of waste management changing to CMO, the town was left to their own devices to set up a schedule for non-residential recycling pickup.
CMO excludes non-residential properties such as businesses and schools from the new plan, due to provincial regulation, and as a result the town had to contract Miller Waste to pick up recycling at these locations.
It will cost the town $106,000 as highlighted in a previous council meeting and changes will take effect on Jan 5.
These changes include:
- recycling collection will now occur on Friday
- the recycling schedule will follow the alternating co-mingled schedule of residential properties
- recycling pickup will be reduced to a bi-weekly schedule
However, the town notes garbage pickup for non-residential properties will not change.
Further details can be found in a pamphlet published by the town: click here for more info
