Changes are coming to recycling programs province-wide in the new year and the Town of Renfrew has announced their non-residential recycling strategy.
Throughout the month multiple municipalities announced Circular Materials Ontario (CMO) would be managing recycling pickup for residents, however non-residential properties such as businesses and schools would be left to their own resources for waste management.
Last Monday the Town of Renfrew published the official plan for non-residential recycling pickup.
For these properties garbage pickup will remain unchanged, but recycling collection will occur on Friday.
Cardboard will now only be collected bi-weekly for properties in the downtown core.
Landfill-drop off will still be free, but non-residential property owners will now have a dedicated area in the landfill to drop off their recycling separately from residential.
The new system also includes a wider array of recyclable materials; flexible plastic, black plastic, Styrofoam and certain empty aerosols can now be recycled.
The collection will be handled by Miller Waste and will cost the town $106,000 as highlighted in a previous council meeting.
