Renfrew Curling Rink will be kicking off the new year strong with their Learn to Curl program which starts on Jan. 8.
Learn to Curl is a weekly program designed for beginners to pick up the basics of this iconic winter sport.
It will be running each Thursday until Feb. 5, and coordinator Nancy Saumure said taking up curling is a great activity to add to a new year’s resolution.
All the equipment is supplied, curious future-curlers just need to bring a solid (and clean!) pair of running shoes.
Saumure said everybody can curl, even those no longer in their physical prime.
Signing up for Learn to Curl can also pay back in the long run; the practice sessions will run about $60 for the entire course but if those individuals wish to continue their curling career that cost is removed from league registration fees.
Curling in Renfrew also means being apart of the rink’s community.
The Renfrew Curling Rink is a very inclusive environment with the teamwork extending past the ice.
Part of the curling ritual is to kick back and relax at the rink’s bar after tossing a few stones and deliberating about the evening’s games.
Saumure said curling is one of the most accessible and fun sports around and is an especially good way to blitz through those chilly winter periods.
