Diane Aube and James Harrington with CNL's Chalk River Radiation Protection team
The Chalk River nuclear labs are recognizing local innovators making waves in complex fields of science and technology.
Canadian Nuclear Laboratories recently held their annual Awards of Excellence ceremony, where several Ottawa Valley-based employees were honoured for their dedication, ingenuity, and collaboration in advancing Canada’s priorities in nuclear science and technology.
One of the standout accomplishments came from Diane Aube and James Harrington from the Chalk River Radiation Protection team, who were among the 56 winners of CNL’s Distinguished Merit award for their work in understanding high-energy alpha contamination and improving international safety and radiation-protection standards.
Aube says their work has put an emphasis on addressing the potential risks of alpha radiation contamination on exposed skin, something that may not have been considered beforehand.
CNL says their awards highlight major national breakthroughs driven by local people whose commitment and curiosity will have ripple effects far beyond the Ottawa Valley.
