The town has many uses for holiday lights, such as the trees and poles that line the downtown core | Mik Horvath/MBC
The Town of Renfrew is trying a new method of acquiring colourful Christmas lights and it needs help from the public.
The town is putting a notice out for anyone that has unwanted, but functional, Christmas lights to consider donating them to the town to be used for the holidays.
Town of Renfrew Communications and Engagement Coordinator Hannah MacMillan said it’s a great idea for the town to reuse unwanted Christmas lights to ease the burden of holiday spending.
Lights can be dropped off either at the town’s recreation office in the myFM Centre on 1 Ma Te Way Park Dr., or at the landfill on Bruce St.
MacMillan said saving these lights also has environmental benefits.
Although this is the first year Renfrew has tried such a program so its success has yet to be determined, but MacMillan said they are already looking into future promotion of this light recycling.
MacMillan said the town is very grateful for anyone considering dropping off Christmas lights, but she stresses that the lights must be functional or else they won’t be accepted.
