A wildfire in Madawaska Valley is now under control after almost a full day of hard work by local first responders.
Firefighters from Madawaska Valley and Killaloe, Hagarty, and Richards were sent to the area near Opeongo Road and Wilno South Road just after 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 15th, after a drone operator spotted an 85-acre forest fire that they were alerted to earlier that morning.
The Ministry of Natural Resources would join the effort to stamp out the blaze that afternoon, followed by waterbombers dropping water from the nearby Kamaniskeg Lake, as crews worked until dark and returned Thursday morning to keep the fire from spreading.
While the fire no longer presents a danger to the public, officials are asking the public to stay clear while trucks continue to shuttle water to the scene along Hopefield and Opeongo Roads.
