Town staff in Renfrew are looking for a few helping hands to put the final touches on the current development of their latest walking trail.
Manager of Environmental Services Amanda Springer explains that the Bonnechere River Trail has been a hit with the public, but there have been a few problems with some of the more difficult portions of the route, as well as the notably slick clay found in the area.
Springer is hoping to see the same kind of support from the community they enjoyed ahead of the trail’s opening on Canada Day as they make tweaks to the more difficult switchbacks along the trail on Saturday, October 4th, as well as to carry and install a new picnic table near the river to give people more space to stop and enjoy the view.
The two working group days will wrap up work along the trail ahead of the winter, but Springer says that she will be deep in discussion with Environment Canada, as the next phase of the project will venture even further into previously unreachable vantage points along the Bonnechere.
Interested volunteers can sign up online. Springer notes that this is a good opportunity for local students looking to fulfill their required volunteer hours, although those aged 14 to 18 will need their parents or guardians to fill out a permission form.
