Speed cameras are still on the way to Renfrew County communities despite hitting a small snag.
County Warden Peter Emon says the ongoing project, which will put up automated speed enforcement cameras in school zones along county roads in Renfrew, Petawawa, and Laurentian Valley, has had to wait until October 29th due to delays from the province.
Once they are fully installed, the cameras will catch and ticket speeding motorists on three roads that Emon says were top of mind for student safety: Raglan Street South near St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in Renfrew, Petawawa Boulevard near Pine View Public School in Petawawa, and Round Lake Road near Rockland Public School in Laurentian Valley.
Emon notes that, while the county can only install the cameras on roads they control, communities can reach out to partner with them on acquiring and installing them in high-traffic areas near local schools.
Communities where the new speed cameras are being installed are expected to be notified with more details in the near future.
