The Renfrew Curling Rink, located on Xavier Street by way of Railway Avenue, will be hosting free curling sessions at the end of the month.
Rink president Keith Moss said it’s a bid to attract the interest of a new age demographic.
Moss said the established elder curlers were reluctant to return to the ice during the pandemic peaks of the early 2020s.
The “rebuild” includes more than just renovations to the structure; Moss and the rink are hosting free curling sessions on select dates at the end of September.
This provides the opportunity for anyone with some free time to try out this iconic winter sport at no expense.
Starting on Monday, Sept. 29 the free sessions are also to be held on the following Wednesday and Friday and participants must register with the rink ahead of time
Moss is hoping the free sessions inspires participants to become regular members for the upcoming season.
He said the curling rink has one of the friendliest and most social sports communities Moss has been a part of.
The curling rink is also hosting an open house and season registration this Sunday, Sept. 14 showing off the facility ahead of the busy season.
For anyone new to the valley this could be a great way to get familiar with the locals.
For registration and more information check out their website or head over to Sunday’s open house.
