A brush fire that was raging off of Wilno Road North is under control as local fire services respond to the emergency.
The fire was first responded to by Madawaska Valley Fire Department (MVFD) at around 2 p.m. on Monday.
The flames were reportedly over a metre tall at their peak.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) also made an appearance on-scene around 3 p.m.
Today around noon Madawaska Valley published an update that the MNRF notified MVFD Chief Corwin Quade the fire had stopped spreading and currently poses no immediate threat to the public or other structures.
At 4 p.m. Madawaska Valley made another Facebook update announcing there are no active flames and the MNRF are currently extinguishing hotspots smoldering in the area.
The MNRF will be sticking around for the next few days to monitor the area.
They confirm the fire was sparked by a lightning strike.
To stay updated on the fire keep an eye on Madawaska Valley’s website or Facebook page and renfrewtoday.ca.
