
Your last chance to safely ditch oil filters and other automotive waste like old gas and brake fluid is this week.
The Town of Renfrew’s Household Hazardous Waste Depot will shut down for the winter this Saturday, August 30th, accepting various paints, solvents, dead batteries, and other hard-to-dispose-of goods for the last time until next spring.
The depot is a free service for residents of Renfrew, Arnprior, McNab-Braeside, Horton, Admaston/Bromley, Addington Highlands, and Greater Madawaska, open from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm from Tuesday to Thursday and from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm on Friday and Saturday.
Items that the Hazardous Waste Depot will be taking this week include:
- Paints: All Types of Paint, Stains, Varnish, Spray Paint, etc.
- Solvents: turpentine, disinfectants, household cleaners, bleach, oven and drain cleaners, furniture strippers, ammonia, etc.
- Herbicides, pesticides and insecticides, weed killers, etc.
- Pool cleaners
- Propane Tanks
- Batteries: Small Standard, Button, Small Tool, Car and Boat Batteries.
- Automotive Fluids: Used Oil, Brake Fluid, Gasoline, Anti-Freeze, etc.
- Oil filters
- Oil containers (empty or containing oil)
- Light Bulbs and Tubes (all types except PCB ballasts)
- Fire Extinguishers
- Aerosols
- Non-refillable pressurized containers: acetylene, refrigerant, propane, helium, and CO2 cylinders.
- Pharmaceuticals/Medication (no needles)
- Mercury bulb thermostats and switches
