The persistently hot and dry conditions have left a few communities in the Ottawa Valley minding their water usage.
Township staff in Whitewater Region are reminding residents and businesses who use the municipal water supply that watering lawns, gardens, and other plots is only allowed between 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm, adding that it should only be done with one sprinkler or similar appliance at a time.
Exceptions for new lawns are available but require approval in writing prior to increasing water usage.
Meanwhile, Laurentian Valley’s water restriction bylaws are still in effect until September 15th, as the township asks residents to conserve water now to avoid further restrictions.
Properties with even-numbered addresses are asked to keep lawn and garden watering to between 6:00 am and 10:00 am or 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm on even calendar days, while odd-numbered addresses can do so on odd calendar days.
Breaking the bylaw could leave residents liable to fines or other penalties.
