Greater Madawaska’s Fire Chief says everyone is safe following a Tuesday night fire in the village of Dacre.
The OPP says a local officer conducting a traffic stop in the area responded to a 911 call at a motel on the corner of Flat Road and Highway 132 at around 6:15 pm on Tuesday, August 12th, helping to evacuate the building as Fire Chief Tyler Jordan and his team arrived on the scene to fight the blaze.
Firefighters worked quickly to fight the blaze, which rapidly spread across the roof of the building, but Jordan explains that they had to tear through multiple layers of roofing left behind by recent repairs to stop the fire.
Chief Jordan also notes that working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in the building helped alert people to the problem before the occupants were hurt.
The Greater Madawaska Fire Department believes the fire is “not suspicious” and has not called the fire marshal to investigate its cause.
