Renfrew resident Marylin Malloy is looking for something like these to create a small library for her neighbourhood
Renfrew’s Dominion Street is changing with the times thanks to a new resident-led project happening in the community.
Marilyn Malloy recently joined myFM in the Morning to see if anyone in the area would be willing to donate a pair of newspaper dispensers, like the ones that used to supply the news to customers along the downtown core years ago, that will be the starting point for a small, free neighbourhood library that will help ignite the love of reading for neighbours of all ages.
Malloy says the older generation has been slowly choosing to sell and move away, opening Dominion to a new wave of younger families that would likely appreciate the type of community building that a neighbourhood library would offer.
The hope is that someone in the Renfrew area might be willing to part with the bins required for the project for little to no cost, and that their upcycling will convince other neighrourhoods in Renfrew will develop their own communal space to give, take, and share their favourite tales with others.
Malloy notes that she’s already heard from a few neighbours who are excited to begin developing the little library’s first set of books and to leave treats behind for those first few to make use of it.
