Fundraising efforts are underway to support a Renfrew-area teen who was seriously injured in a June 22 motorcycle crash on Lochwinnoch Road.
A GoFundMe is raising money to support 17-year-old Kyler Rea and his family. A Renfrew Minor Hockey player and cadet, Kyler and his family’s many friends and the community are rallying around him.
“Kyler is currently under medical care in the ICU in Ottawa. He has several serious bone fractures, as well as a major spinal cord injury that will most likely result in paralysis from the waist down,” reads the GoFundMe story. “He has currently undergone an immediate spinal surgery to fuse the spinal column.”
The fundraiser is being organized by a sibling and family friend of Kyler’s.
“The Doctors and Nurses are taking amazing care of him. We are so grateful for the care that they are providing for him and thankfully at this time he is responding well to all treatment,” it reads. “We are appreciative of all of your thoughts, prayers, love and support in this challenging time for our family.”
The family has no immediate needs as Kyler is expected to be in the hospital for some time during his recovery.
“However, we are heavily aware that Kyler’s daily life will be drastically different and we understand the permanent needs that Kyler may have as a result of his spinal injury. Our goal is to support and ensure a safe comfortable return home for Kyler, which will require a variety of medical equipment to help make this a smoother transition for him,” reads the story.
“Please keep Kyler in your thoughts, and we are incredibly appreciative of everyone who’s run errands, helped support our other children, offered kind words, food, company, and so much more,” it reads.
Donations can be made to the GoFundMe or via e-transfer to team.kyler.rea@gmail.com
