The Third Annual Arnprior Lions Jail and Bail had more comedy and drama than ever before, as the fundraiser nestled into the Giant Tiger Parking Lot Saturday.
19 offenders were incarcerated, with the goal to see bail funds raised from a supportive audience- the twist being the judge could be legally bribed by hecklers to keep you locked away longer.
The money would be used locally for the club’s community activities.
The criminals came from all walks of life, including municipal- as in Scott Brum.
Judge Ray Laroque sentenced the jailbirds on trumped-up charges.
Also represented were members of service groups, businesses and institutions- and even animal species, with Sparky the Fire Dog.
But among the incarcerees who stole the show, it was Valley legend Wayne Rostad with his talking dummy alter ego who stood out.
There was significant repartee between Judge Laroque and the singer.
Better a groaner than a loner.
Host Andy Stokes’s impending sudden bout of premature baldness added suspense to the afternoon.
As the final moments of the event approached, “Shop Local” Sheriff’s badge aside, Andy was handcuffed to his chair- and very much under protest, his golden locks were shorn.
Rostad, who enjoys Arnprior Lions Club functions, consoled Stokes for his loss by kissing his suddenly balden pate.
