Volunteers in Renfrew are working along the Bonnechere as they create the town’s newest natural attraction.
Work along the Bonnechere River Trail, which would take advantage of unused, town-owned land near Highway 17, began in early May with the aim of creating what the town calls a “true hiking trail” that will let users see areas of Renfrew and the waterway that residents have never seen before.
Plans are underway for another work session on June 7, including the creation of bridges and boardwalks, the development of switchbacks, and the pruning of trees, as well as installing signage and trail markers, as the plan is to have the first section of the trail open this summer.
Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the work is invited to register online through the town of Renfrew’s website.
