There are still a few tickets left to the upcoming Two Rivers Musical Productions’ ‘Once Upon a Mattress’ but they’re going fast!
Director Mary-Ellen Vice says enthusiasm is high for the show, a family-friendly musical retelling of ‘The Princess and the Pea’ that opens Thursday in Arnprior.
The production is made up of a small part of the traditional ‘Princess and the Pea’ story with plenty of twists.
‘Once Upon a Mattress,’ featuring “the most unlikely princess you could ever imagine” (played by Mena Boettger), will appeal to a wide range of people, said Vice.
Vice said there’s something about a fairy that has universal appeal.
The director can’t say enough about the musical talent of those involved in ‘Once Upon a Mattress.’
This is Vice’s third show with Two Rivers. She played Marilla in Anne of Green Gables and was the fairy godmother in Cinderella before that. This time around, she wanted to try her hand at directing and it’s been an overwhelmingly positive experience.
The community theatre community is a supportive and magical place.
Such a wide variety of people are involved. From the cast of 28, to the backstage and lighting crew, the band, the choreographer and on and on – successfully running one of the productions is like putting together a jigsaw puzzle, said Vice.
And among the beautiful things about that is that people who are experienced are sharing knowledge with the younger and less experienced so there’s lots of learning going on, said Vice.
‘Once Upon a Mattress’ runs May 29, 30, 31 at 7 p.m. and there’s a matinee on June 1 at 2 p.m. at Arnprior District High School. Attendees can expect a two-hour show with an intermission. Refreshments and treats will be on sale. For more information or tickets, visit the website.
