Last week, officers from the Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police joined Ottawa OPP for a traffic safety initiative targeting distracted driving along Highway 417.
“Using a spotter vehicle to find violators, police laid a total of 35 charges, including 21 for distracted driving!” reads an OPP social media post.
The initiative also led to an impaired driving by drugs charge, as well as multiple suspended drivers and a vehicle operating with no insurance.
The fine for using your cell phone while driving is $615, three demerit points, and a three- day driving suspension upon conviction.
Police urge drivers to leave the phone alone.
