In a perfect world there would be no outside threats to Ontario’s remaining Old Growth Forest stands.
That’s Philip Candelaria, one of the organizers of Saturday’s Save the Grove Benefit Concert, being held at Emmanuel Anglican Church on Harrington Street in Arnprior.
Philip’s co-organizer is Almonte resident Jennifer Noxon, who, in the early oughts, composed a song inspired by the initial Save the Grove Committee, a group that thwarted plans to turn the nature preserve into another cookie-cutter subdivision.
(The “Zoom Zoom” refrain heard therein is inspired by a Mazda commercial of the era, the tag-line of which involved child actor Mica Kanter repeating the phrase at the spot’s ending).
For Candelaria, wanton disregard for environmental practices- literally in his own backyard, was what got him going.
He says the six acts performing share common cause.
Doors open at 7PM, the concert starts at 730PM.
Intermission will allow for additional fundraising and purchase opportunities.
Following the intermission, it’s back to the music.
Jennifer says each act will perform a fifteen minute set for a crowd expected to come from western Ottawa and the eastern Valley.
Noxon says music is not only good for the soul, it’s a powerful motivator.
There’s another detail we should know before we close.
