Ontario Provincial Police from the Renfrew Detachment say they stopped a vehicle travelling 178 km/hour in a posted 80 zone on Wednesday, May 14 – that’s 98 km/h over the speed limit.
The traffic stop was made on Cobden Road in Admaston-Bromley Towship.
“The driver has been handed a 30-day driving licence suspension and 14-day vehicle impound,” reads an OPP social media post. “They also face a minimum $2,000 fine, six demerit points, and a one-year driving prohibition upon conviction.”
Police ask members of the public to slow down and drive safely.
“This is #CanadaRoadSafetyWeek, and road safety is everyone’s responsibility,” reads the post.
