As part of the commitment to the Provincial Traffic Safety Program the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be taking part in the annual Canada Road Safety Week campaign which runs from May 13 to May 19, 2025.
The seven-day campaign is a collaborative effort by Canadian Police Services which targets high risk driving behaviours that puts road users at risk. OPP officers will be highly visible in the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment area while paying specific attention to the “The Big 4” which, in terms of personal injury collision causation are impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving and lack of occupant restraint.
Traditionally a higher volume of traffic occurs on area roadways over the Victoria Day Long Weekend. UOV OPP Staff Sgt. Sarah Darraugh stated, “The UOV OPP is committed to Road Safety Week and all motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are asked to do their part in helping keep our roadways safe.
Motorists can expect to see a significant police presence on our area roadways with officers working to ensure all road users get to their destination safely.”
