Scott Brum has been busy organizing the Ottawa and Valley Homesteader’s Conference- and took a pause this week to catch his breath and tell us all about it.
It all gets underway at 9AM with opening ceremonies at the JAG on Sarah Street in Braeside.
Brum says the whole event wouldn’t be possible without volunteer labour and key sponsorships from Reid Brothers’ Motors, Mike’s Hardware in Pembroke, Laurentian Valley’s “Our Homestead”, Ryan’s Prestige Painting, Delta Power of Renfrew, Pilon Family Funeral Home, Scott McGuire Enterprises- and Rump Roast.
While it’s billed as the Ottawa and Valley Homesteader’s Conference, there are people making the trek from further afield.
The first workshop, “Composting 101” begins at 9:30AM.
At 10:30, Kevin Rosien from Rosien Farms gives a heads-up on the butchering trade.
Rosien’s presentation is followed at Noon with a session on Preserving Goods- what you can freezing,
and can or preserve.
Brum himself, as many may recall, is an expert on Backyard chickens. His presentation starts at 1PM.
Beekeeper Andre Pilon is the day’s final presenter, discussing what we can all do to help these key pollinators thrive.
Andre’s presentation is from 2-3PM.
There will be plenty of networking opportunities, outdoor entertainment for the kids, a seed swap and more at the Ottawa and Valley Homesteader’s Conference, Saturday at the JAG Centre in Braeside.
