As we approach Canada’s 45th General Election on Monday, April 28, let’s take a look at our riding.
The name – now known as Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke – may have changed, but the boundaries remain the same.
Confirmed candidates on the Elections Canada website in the region so far are: Randy Briand (United Party of Canada); current MP Cheryl Gallant (Conservative Party of Canada), Eileen Jones-Whyte (New Democratic Party) and Cyndi Mills (Liberal Party of Canada). The Green Party’s website lists Danilo Velasquez as their ARP candidate and the People’s Party of Canada’s website indicates Patrick Dale is their local candidate.
The deadline for candidate nominations is Monday, April 7,
Gallant won her seat as a Canadian Alliance candidate in 2000 and has remained. Before that, the riding was Liberal.
Electoral district number 35002 covers 11,359 km2 and has an approximate population of 107,420, including an estimated 90,234 electors.
Major municipalities in Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke include Petawawa, Pembroke, Arnprior, Laurentian Valley, Renfrew, McNab/Braeside, Whitewater Region, Deep River, Madawaska Valley, and Bonnechere Valley.
Garrison Petawawa and Pikwàkanagàn are also part of the riding.
Adjacent electoral districts are Lanark-Frontenac, Nipissing-Timiskaming, Carleton, Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes and Hastings-Lennox and Addington-Tyendinaga.
