McNab-Braeside has completed the musical chairs process that was one of the possible outcomes following the mid-term resignation of Mayor Mark MacKenzie.
Council met in Special Session Friday morning (February 28th) to determine a course of action the day MacKenzie’s resignation took effect.
A number of members of the public attended and shared their views on the various scenarios in play to fill the Council vacancy.
Representatives adjourned to a closed-door session to consider whether to A) hold a byelection B) appoint a candidate from the 2022 list of nominees C) invite applications from the public.
When they emerged following the in-camera considerations it was announced that Deputy-Mayor Lori Hoddinott becomes Mayor for the balance of the term, while representative Scott Brum is elevated to Deputy Mayor.
The Township will advertise for names wishing to be considered for what is now a vacant councillor position, with an application deadline of the end of March.
Elected representatives rejected the estimated 33,000 dollar cost of a byelection as not being in the municipal interest.
Hoddinott and Brum will swear new oaths of office prior to the March 4th Municipal meeting.
