Argyle Street South between Munroe Avenue and Patrick Avenue
An optional part of a project that has dominated Renfrew’s construction cycle will stay in limbo for now.
Town Council has agreed to wait until this year’s budget talks to decide on the reconstruction of sidewalks along both sides of Argyle Street South between Munroe Avenue and Patrick Avenue, as well as the north end of Patrick Avenue.
Director of Infrastructure, Public Works & Engineering Andrea Bishop says the work was a scrapped portion of the massive water main replacement along Argyle and Lochiel Streets that wrapped up last fall but had been discussed previously due to safety concerns from locals.
While a significant portion of the watermain replacement was funded by a federal government grant for green infrastructure, Bishop explains that the town was limited as to where they could use that money.
BEI has put the estimated cost of the sidewalk on both sides of Argyle Street between Munroe and Patrick at $207,358, and the estimated cost along the north side of Patrick is $43,716, figures that council and Chief Administrative Officer Gloria Raybone agreed deserved a deeper look as they attempt to balance a number of major expenditures, which will begin as part of the 2025 town budget.
The town could also decide to focus on completing the Argyle Street sidewalks only at this time, leaving the Patrick Avenue portion for a later date.
